City Cents Oslo

Fashion editor Dominique Afacan blew €100 in the Norwegian capital (in krone of course). Here’s what she bought…

1 Ringnes beer
A staple on the vorspiel (preparty) scene, Ringnes comes from Norway’s biggest brewer – founded in 1878 by two brothers. Buy a six-pack and drink up before heading out on the town. For the leastexpensive drinks head to the cool Gronland area. €7

2 Moods of Norway pants
Moods of Norway makes “happy clothes for happy people”, and has stockists all over the city. Bring back a pair of stitch-your-own boxer shorts – these have a funky moose design to give them that Nordic touch. €33

3 Kvikk Lunsj
Mmm… Norway has a whole new range of chocolate bars to try. Kvikk Lunsj is one of the most popular with locals, and its four choccy fingers taste like a KitKat – only better. Bring back as many as you can carry or you’ll regret it. €1

4 Cheese slicer
Jarlsberg, Ridder, Brunost – whatever Norwegian cheese you’re eating, make sure you cut it right by using a cheese slicer. The thinner and lighter the better – we got ours from Pur Norsk, which stocks the coolest local products from local designers. €10

5 Hat
It gets mighty chilly in Oslo, so the city does a pretty good line in hats. For true Norweigian style, make it a trapper-style affair to keep your ears warm. Head to Fretex, a second-hand store in Grunnerlokka for a good selection. €10

6 Snus
After the smoking ban in Norway locals switched to snus in their masses. You just tuck the sachet under your upper lip and wait for the nicotine hit. It tastes pretty rancid, but apparently you get used to it. €5

7 Viking horn souvenir
You can’t come back from Norway without some kind of Viking memento, so make it a blowing horn – ideal for waking people up after a heavy night out on the town! €18

8 No magazine
Fit in with Norway’s cool crowd by tucking an issue of .No under your arm. The stylish lifestyle mag even has an international edition, which was launched in New York last year. €8.60

9 Rekeost paste
Spread this shrimpflavoured cream cheese onto bread or crackers for a quick-fix, Norweigian-style snack. Also check out our Taste Test (right) for more foodie ideas. €5
