Jazz events across the island
TIME IN JAZZ
Local jazz player, Paolo Fresu, founded this
festival in 1988 and remains its artistic director.
This year it will take place 10–16 August, in
Berchidda, and is entitled Arkitekturae. Visitors
will be able to explore the relationship between

CALAGONONE JAZZ Held in the idyllic area of Cala Gonone, on Sardinia’s western coast, this festival – now in its 20th year – plays host to the likes of US saxophonist Dave Murray, and takes place near the end of July. www.festivalcalagononejazz.it
LA NOTTE DEI POETI. Though it’s called The Night of the Poets, this series of poetic, dramatic and musical events actually takes place over a number of nights, between the end of July and the beginning of August. All are held in the Roman amphitheatre in Nora, south west of the capital, Cagliari. www.lanottedeipoeti.it
MUSICA SULLE BOCCHE
Scheduled for 21–25
August, this event takes
place in the Santa Teresa
Gallura region, in the far
north of the island. Although
the line up is yet to be
confirmed (at time of going
to press), last year’s festival
was dedicated to the genius
of jazz legend John Coltrane.

NARCAO BLUES Traditional blues, jazz and gospel are all on offer, at this festival in Narcao, just ouside Cagliari. This year’s event is due to take place 24–26 July. www.narcaoblues.it
AI CONFINI TRA SARDEGNA E JAZZ
Dubbed
“the borders
between
Sardinia and
jazz”, this series of
concerts is held at
Sant’Anna Arresi, on the
south-western tip of the island.
Last year’s event was dedicated to the late jazz
great, Don Cherry, and you can check out this
year’s showcase on 23 August–6 September.

ROCCE ROSSE BLUES This festival takes its name from rose-coloured cliffs of Arbatax, on Sardinia’s western shores, where the festival is held. The line-up spans rock, blues and jazz, with David Bowie, Jeff Beck and Lou Reed having all played there in previous years. Dates vary year to year, with individual concerts scheduled across July, August and September.www.roccerosse.it
JAZZ IN SARDEGNA – EUROPEAN JAZZ EXPO 2008
Back to Cagliari, 14–16 November, for a
heavyweight jazz festival. Sun Ra,
Chick Corea and Art Ensemble of
Chicago have all played at this
prestigious event in the past.
